Karanda AIC Community

Karanda AIC is a multidisciplinary Christian society, working as a local church under the umbrella of African Anglican Churches of Kenya. The church has successfully implemented several community interventions aimed at improving community health status through nutritional support to approximately 700 pupils at Karanda Primary school, mobilization for counseling and testing, Drug adherence for the uptake of ARVs, prevention of mother to child transmission, Referrals for care and treatment to health facilities, capacity building training for increased access to preventive and curative measures including behavior change campaign and in furtherance empower widows and other caregivers economically. Currently, Karanda Primary school has an overwhelming number of new pupils enrolled in the school just to benefit from the program; this means that the project is very much viable for the retention of pupils in school, enhancing maximum concentration in class and increase the level of co existence among pupils, hence sense of belonging to OVCs who often feel discriminated and stigmatized The church works with the community vulnerable group most of whom are widow who cannot afford to get their basic needs such shelter, Food, clothes and healthcare either because they are chronically ill or too poor to afford the services. The recent need assessment survey conducted in Kakola Ombaka location where karanda community is indicated that nearly every household can only afford one meal in a day leading to dangers on malnourishment.
