Situation Analysis/Problem Statement

The proposed project is anticipated to address several problems associated to socio economic deprivation caused by number of challenges including poor access to healthcare, illiteracy, discrimination against girl child and women participation in socio economic developments, sporadic flood which has caused acute decline in food production and increase in mortality rate due to diseases more so among the children between the ages 0 – 12 years .According to economic development survey 2012 there is clear indication on the decline in food production leading to increase in the number of hunger faced households and general food insecurity, for instant quite a good number of OVCs suffer because of the decline of the community in offering care and support due to high cost of living, increasing number of OVCs, inadequate skills and knowledge on improved care and support. This scenario has exposed both OVCs and PLWHAs into acquiring new and re infection because of risky behavior. The experience has revealed that most OVCs are under the care of grandmothers between the ages 55-64 years with very little knowledge on effective care and support, living in pathetic shelter and sometimes infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. Considering the above mentioned situation, most OVCs especially in child headed household resort to dubious survival mechanism in order to get their daily bread and further meet their basic needs, to acquire this, their engagement in risky sexual behavior land them into acquiring HIV/AIDS which often deteriorate their health status and that is one of the justification for increased mortality rate in Karanda community. The psychologically affected OVCs under the care of chronically ill grandparent are subjected to very risky decisions such as early marriages, drug abuse, sexual debut and street boys.
